Christmas in La Orotava

In La Orotava it's Christmas. On November 30, the portal of the Plaza del Ayuntamiento was opened to the public, and its squares and streets are already shining with the extraordinary Christmas illumination.

PORTAL OF THE TOWN HALL PLAZA

The stable of Bethlehem at Plaza del Ayuntamiento covers an area of ​​almost 1,000 square meters, so today is the largest in the Canary Islands and one of the largest in Spain of these characteristics. It is made with more than 300 life-size pieces with the Nativity and various scenes representative of the Hebrew and Canarian culture. This nativity scene, included in the route of the nativity scenes by La Orotava, is one of the most visited in the Canary Islands.

The nativity scene can be visited 24 hours a day from this Friday, November 30 to January 9. And in this space will take place, on January 5, after the Cavalcade, the act of staging the adoration of the Magi to the Child Jesus.

The central part of the Nativity is complemented by representations of the time such as a souk with various stalls, and also of traditional Hebrew crafts such as a loom, basketry... This year a pottery workshop with pottery and clay pieces, its furnace and how the lathe is worked. In addition, parts of the portal have been restored and all the clothing of the figures has been changed.

In addition, it is noteworthy that the Nativity scene can be admired from anywhere in the world through the webcam installed in the upper part of the town hall.

CHRISTMAS FAIR AND LUDOTECA

In these Christmas dates, from the Department of Economic Development has organized the Christmas Fair. Between November 30 and December 9, at the Casa de la Cultura de San Agustín, there will be about fifteen establishments offering Christmas decorations, nativity items, Christmas confectionery, toys, sweets, flowers ... The days December 1, 2, 6, 8 and 9, from 11:00 to 9:00 p.m., while on December 3, 4, 5 and 7, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In addition, the little ones can enjoy Christmas craft workshops.

On the other hand, the Christmas toy library will be offered again, between December 26 and January 4, so that parents can carry out their purchases quietly these days. When buying in shops of the Villa you can request a free hour and a half ticket.
