La Laguna

A few kilometres from the centre of La Laguna, beyond Tenerife-North airport, along the TF-82, you come to Guamasa.

If you take El Boqerón turn-off, you can continue towards the Valle de Guerra, travelling through an area of good farmland. There is a lookout point which gives you a lovely view of the whole of the coastal area of the borough of La Laguna. The road joins the Tacoronte road. Near the cross-roads, you come to the Casa de Carta, which houses the Tenerife Anthropology Museum.

The village of Valle de Guerra is a few minutes further along the road. The village owes its name to the heirs of one of the conquistadors, Lope Fernández, whose surname was Guerra.

The village of Tejina is in this important farming area, where you can find the only rum distillery on the island.

The most direct way to get to Chinamada is from Las Carboneras, another hamlet of Anaga which can be reached by the road through Monte de Las Mercedes, taking the TF-145 turn-off.

Next to Las Carboneras church, you go down the street, which soon turns into a track. You follow the track to the church, about 2 kilometres away. Follow the path next to the church and it will soon take you to the Chinamada cave houses, dug into the mountain.

If you take the TF-143 turn-off, along the TF-12 Las Mercedes road, near Cruz del Carmen, you can reach the hamlet of Los Batanes, which, like Chinamada and Las Carboneras, forms part of the borough of La Laguna.
