Adapted Transport

If accessibility to the physical environment is essential for people with impaired mobility, transport is another element that deserves special attention, in order to provide equal opportunities for all. On the island of Tenerife, there is a series of resources and services to facilitate the travels of those with impaired mobility.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT (BUSSES)

The public bus company, TITSA (Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife, S.A.) presently has a total of 136 "low-loader" type Adapted Vehicles (flat floor vehicles with side wheels and equipped with electric lift ramps) that provide bus services covering just the metropolitan area, which means that 25% of the entire fleet are accessible units, although, at this point in time WE CANNOT GUARANTEE the specific frequency on each routes.

ADAPTED TAXI (EUROTAXI)

There are several Accessible Taxis based in the boroughs of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Capital), La Laguna and La Orotava, although they can provide services all over the island. These vehicles are MPV-type cars fitted with a ramp to provide access to the interior, allowing the client to travel in his/her own wheelchair, just like the other passengers, carry the baby´s push chair without having to fold it up, or carry 6 passengers.

RED CROSS ADAPTED TRANSPORT

The Provincial Assembly of the Spanish Red Cross in Tenerife has FORD TRANSIT vehicles distributed throughout the island, fitted with lifting platforms to provide wheelchair access. Each vehicle can hold up to 3 wheelchairs and four walking passengers. This service is provided on request by the Provincial Red Cross Transport Co-ordination Centre.
