Routes from the South

ROUTE Nº 1: ARAFO - MONTE DE LA ESPERANZA - TEIDE NATIONAL PARK

Departing from Playa de las Américas, Los Cristianos or Costa Adeje:
Southern motorway TF-1 to the Arafo exit (Valle de Güimar) - Arafo - Road TF-523 - continue to climb until you pick up the TF-24 ridge road, climbing towards Las Cañadas.
Las Cumbres look out in Chipeque (1,800 metres above sea level; Km 26 turn off to the right: El Sur and El Norte look outs.
Ayosa lookout (2,000 m.) - La Crucita look out (1,980 m) - La Tarta look out (2,100 m: volcanic layers of different colours) - Puerto de Izaña (2,300 m) - El Portillo cross roads (2,030m)
Visitors´ Centre, 100 m from the cross roads (open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) - Phone: 922 356 000.
TEIDE NATIONAL PARK
Mina de San José look out, in Montaña Rajada - El Tabonal look out - Cable Car base station (information 922 694 038 - 922 010 445) - National Parador Hotel.
Los Roques and Ucanca look out (opposite the Parador Hotel) - Los Azulejos - Boca de Tauce - Road TF-38 to Chio - Las Narices del Teide look out (erupted in 1798) at Km 3 - Chinyero volcano at Km 15 (erupted in 1909) - back to the South via Guía de Isora or Tamaimo - Los Gigantes - Alcalá - Playa de San Juan.

ROUTE Nº 2 ARONA - TEIDE NATIONAL PARK - ICOD DE LOS VINOS - GARACHICO - PUNTA DE TENO - MASCA - LOS GIGANTES - PLAYA SAN JUAN

Starting from Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos or Costa Adeje:
Arona cross roads - Arona - La Escalona - Vilaflor (1,400 m) - TF-21 road - Pino Gordo look out (by Forestry House, Km 67) - Las Lajas Recreation Area - El Retamar (2,200 m) - TEIDE NATIONAL PARK.
Boca de Tauce - Los Azulejos - Los Roques and Ucanca look out (by Parador Hotel) - Cable car station (information Phone 922 694 038 - 922 010 445) - El Tabonal look out and Mina de San José (Montaña Rajada) - Visitors´ Centre (open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) on the left right before El Portillo crossroads (2,030 m).
Back down to La Orotava - La Margarita de Piedra look out - Mataznos look out - Aguamansa (Forestry Station and fish farm) - Villa de La Orotava - Puerto de la Cruz - follow the North road as far as Icod de los Vinos (famous dragon tree, church of San Marcos and square)
Garachico (old town centre) - Los Silos - Buenavista - El Palmar - Las Portelas - Masca (600 metres above sea level) - Cherfe look out (1,000 m) - Santiago del Teide - Tamaimo - Los Gigantes (view of the cliffs) -Alcalá - Playa San Juan and back home.
