Masca (Buenavista)
Masca Ethnographic Museum
Masca Ethnographic Museum is located in a traditionally built house and distributed over six rooms that recreate everyday scenes from the area’s past. It has two themed rooms dedicated to basketry and crafts, a former bedroom and a kitchen.
Two other rooms contain a display of farming implements and tools for making looms. In addition to the exhibits, there is a large collection of photos and several posters that clearly depict the way of life of the former inhabitants in this tiny hamlet of Masca.
Opening times: Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Masca Nature Centre
The centre is open to the public and is destined to providing information about Barranco de Masca (ravine) and Teno Rural Park. The exhibition is essentially theme-based and is equipped with multimedia material about the area surrounding Masca and its main natural, environmental (geology, geomorphology, fauna and flora) and cultural values, displayed through a series of information and interactive panels, and audiovisual media. A guide is also present.
The centre is built over two floors, with toilet facilities and an outdoor landscaped area. A shop enables visitors to purchase publications, souvenirs and local craftwork.
These facilities and services have been designed to cater for all visitors to the area, whether unaccompanied or in any kind of organised groups, such as families, friends, educational centres, associations and so on. A maximum of 20 people are allowed for each visit, which will last around 30 to 40 minutes.
Owing to the huge influx of visitors to Masca, a booking system is being planned. For further information, please contact the Oficina de Gestión de Parque Rural de Teno (Teno Rural Park Management Office) between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
