FIESTAS OF SAN ANTONIO

The programme of events includes livestock fairs, folklore shows, typical dances in traditional countryside costume, street parties and pilgrimages. These festivities are celebrated in the month of January. People come from all around these towns to pay tribute to San Antonio. Offerings are made of animals and, in Arona, three ears of wheat per farmhand. After mass, the figure of the Saint is taken out of the church and paraded in procession, or pilgrimage (La Orotava, Buenavista, Arona). After the procession, the livestock is blessed and prizes are awarded for the best animals.
