La Matanza de Acentejo

The higher part of the borough, above 1,000 m., is part of an extensive protected area, classified as the Laderas de Santa Ursula, Los Organos, altos del Valle de Güimar and Monte de La Esperanza Nature Park. It is an area that brings together a whole series of ecological values. There is a recreation area and camp site at La Vica, which can be reached from La Matanza. (You need a permit from the Department of the Environment of the Island Cabildo to stay overnight).

The whole coastal section is a protected area called Acantilados (cliffs) del Sauzal y Tacoronte. This is an area of spectacular beauty and a large population of sea birds, plus several endemic plant species.
