Los Silos
The entire southern part of the borough, and much of the west, forms part of the Teno Rural Park. This area includes the lush Monte de Aguas and Pasos, made up of a large mass of laurel forest, wax myrtle and tree heath. This area of almost 800 hectares is of enormous environmental value because of the plants and animals that live here. Examples are the two species of laurel pigeon (white-tailed and Bolle's), the woodcock and many other birds and insects.
There are a series of pools in Erjos that shelter a rich bird population. The pools lie between Los Silos and the neighbouring borough of El Tanque. They are man-made pools that have been made out of the old quarries, in which the accumulation of rain waters has created several lagoons. The edges of the lagoons have been settled by the local vegetation, creating an ideal habitat for many birds, such as moorhen, heron and even the occasional osprey.
The Los Silos, El Tanque, Garachico and Icod Nature Park has spectacular scenery, and a wide variety of flora, all in the rugged setting of the cliffs.
Other areas of natural interest are places like Montaña de Taco and the coastal cliffs.
