La Victoria de Acentejo

The high mountain part and the east of the borough, over 900 m., form part of the Protected Area called Ladera de Santa Urula, Los Organos, Altos del Valle de Güimar y Monte de la Esperanza. This zone of the dorsal mountain range is covered by extensive forests of pine trees and laurel.

There is a recreation area at Hoya del Abade (or Hoya de los Abades). Take the La Matanza or La Vica road and then take the track that leads off toward Los Revolcaderos, about 6 Kms. Along.

The coastal sector is also protected, as part of the Acantilados (cliffs) del Sauzal y Tacoronte. It is an extraordinary place for its scenic beauty and as a sanctuary for endemic plants and birds, mainly sea birds.

Las Lagunetas protected landscape is an area of 584 hectares in the boroughs of Santa Ursula and La Victoria. There are still some small remains of laurel forest mixed with pine trees, along the ravines and gullies of the north of Tenerife. It used to cover a far more extensive area than now. The flora includes typical species of pine forest, wax myrtle and laurel.

The Costa de Acentejo Protected Landscape covers 401 hectares in the boroughs of El Sauzal, La Matanza, La Victoria, Santa Ursula, Tacoronte and La Orotava. It is an exceptionally beautiful area because of its cliff landscapes and rugged terrain. It has outstanding geomorphic features that are representative of the north coast of the Island. The presence of threatened and protected species, both of flora and fauna, also gives it great scientific value. Some areas are noted as nesting grounds for birds.
