El Tanque

The Corona Forestal Nature Park protects a large area of the south of the borough. Almost as a continuation of the park, there is a small sector of the Teno Rural Park. This is an area with examples of recent and historic volcanic activity. You can see the effects of the Chinyero eruption (1909) and, even more so, of the Arenas Negras eruption (1706), with all its lava flows. The area is of great interest for its flora and fauna, apart from its geological interest.

Las Charcas de Erjos (Erjos pools) lie between the boroughs of El Tanque and Los Silos, constituting a valuable ecosystem. They have been created from the original quarries, which have filled up with rain water to form a series of lagoons, which, with the growth of the vegetation, create an excellent habitat for birds. Many species that are rare or endangered in the rest of the island, find refuge here.

There is a recreation area and camp site at San José de los Llanos (with the corresponding permit from the Department of the Environment of the Island Cabildo).

You can get here from the north (TF-82), or from the south, via Santiago del Teide - Puerto de Erjos.

The extreme northern tip of the borough is part of the protected area of Acantilados (cliffs) de Los Silos, El Tanque, Garachico and Icod. This is an area of great scenic and environmental interest.
